For those of you who haven’t checked out the Batman Begins DVD (and indeed for some of you who have, since the navigation was a bit odd and you might not have found any of the featurettes) and haven’t seen the bit regarding the fighting style they had Bats using…here you go:

I’ve been fascinated by this because it actually negated the whole fight scene problem of “Here’s Guy #1, now they fight, Guy #2 waits his turn. Is Guy #1 down? Yes? Okay, Guy #2 steps forward, now they fight, Guy #3 waits his turn.” It’s never like that. Bad guys pile on and try to actively kill you, not politely wait in line.
Also, when I was a very small kid I took taekwondo. And it never made sense to me. I’m sure at some point you get to where you can kick people’s asses with your eyebrows, but even as a kid the whole notion that I should learn a routine instead of “What to do if someone tries to beat my ass”…that never made sense to me. So Keysi, where you basically meld the fine art of improvisation with mangling your opponent–that sounds promising.
So I decided to Google up some more Keysi vids and I found this:

Wow. That was…lame. Guys, your fighting system sounds really cool. And when it’s in movies, it looks really cool. But your promo video makes it look unbelievably lame. Now I know you could come over here and pummel me to death with your elbows, and that would probably look really cool…but it won’t make your promo vid less lame. Please tell me you have updated your promo video. I would love to run a badass keysi vid that wasn’t shot as part of a movie.
Maybe part of the problem is that unless you’re kicking somebody’s ass with it, it looks like some kind of weird prog metal dance.
